Grilled Salmon Recipes
Overview
Omega-3 fatty acids help bring down your bad cholesterol and keep your arteries clear, which helps keep your heart strong and healthy. Since salmon has a high level of omega-3 fatty acids, eating it is very beneficial to your health. You can buy salmon cut into fillets, steaks or whole. Whether you place it directly on the barbecue or on planks, grilling salmon is a great way to create a delicious meal.
Preparation Techniques
Step 1
Pick salmon with firm flesh that's deep pink and has only a mild fish odor to it. Once you've chosen your salmon, place it on the cutting board and cut it how you want it. You can take the skin off or leave it on while cooking. The skin comes off easily after cooking and can keep it from burning. Keep the salmon in the fridge until you are ready to put it on the grill.
Step 2
Soak a large cedar plank in water for a couple of hours. Your plank doesn't have to be made of cedar. It can also be alder, cherry, maple or hickory, but make sure that you use untreated boards. Soaking the plank gets it moist so it doesn't burn. If you're using a new plank, toast it on both sides for 2 minutes. This will give it a smoky flavor and keep it from getting warped.
Step 3
Brush both sides of the salmon lightly with olive oil before placing it on the plank. You can also oil the plank, or if you're not using a plank, lightly oil the grill rack. This will help keep the salmon from sticking on the rack or plank.
Cooking Techniques
Step 1
Slice the garlic into little slivers and chop up the rosemary. Cut tiny slits into the sides of the salmon and stuff in the garlic slivers. Squeeze some orange juice on the salmon and then sprinkle rosemary, salt and pepper on it. Set it on the plank and close the lid on the grill. Cook between 15 and 20 minutes or until the meat becomes flaky. Serve and enjoy.
Step 2
Sprinkle as much salt and pepper as you want on the salmon and set it on the plank. Close the lid and cook for 15 minutes. Uncover and pour maple syrup over the top of the salmon and cook with the lid closed for 5 more minutes. This will give you a sweet crust topping on your salmon.
Step 3
Place salmon on a square of aluminum foil. Dab some butter on top of the salmon and add salt, pepper, rosemary and garlic slivers. Wrap the aluminum foil tightly and place on the grill for 10 minutes. Unwrap and serve.
